General
An electric grill is used for the same purpose as any other grill; however, it uses electricity to heat the cooking surface rather than gas, pellets, charcoal or wood.
Our electric grills work by using heating elements to heat the cooking surface to the selected temperature. The grill has built-in temperature monitoring so it can auto-regulate and hold at the specific set temperature throughout the cooking process, enabling more precision.
You don't need fuel, so you'll never run out of propane or charcoal in the middle of a cook. Save up to $350 in fuel costs. There's no open flame, meaning electric grills are allowed to be used in many places where gas and charcoal grills are prohibited. No flame also means no flareups, less hot spots, and more consistent cooking. Lastly, electric grills produce lower emissions, so it’s a greener choice.
Current provides better performance than the standard gas grill. It gets hotter and delivers juicier food. Additionally, it provides more versatility and precision than gas grills.
assembly
Assembly is easy and typically takes 30 minutes. Follow the step-by-step directions in the grilling guide or use the BILT App. We recommend 2 people for assembly.
GETTING STARTED
The minimum requirements are a 15A breaker and 15A GFCI outlet with no other appliances running on the same circuit. For best performance, we recommended a 20A breaker and 20A GFCI outlet.
Yes, an extension cord can be used to help reach an outlet, but it may impact heat-up times. The extension cord must be rated for outdoor use for 15A. Use the shortest length possible.
Yes, seasoning your grill before cooking will protect your grill surface and create the beginning of a cooked-in surface treatment that will add to the flavor of your cooks. We recommend seasoning your grill for 2 hours at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
CURRENT APP
Downloading the Current app and connecting your grill to WiFi allows you to control and monitor your grill from your smart phone or watch. It gives you access to an in-depth library of recipes and helpful content. Lastly, it enables updates of your grill’s firmware, ensuring the best performance and cooking experience.
Due to safety regulations, you must be at your grill to turn it on. Once it’s turned on, you can use the app to control and monitor your grill. When finished, you can shut down your grill from the app.
Yes, once you have downloaded the Current Backyard app on your smart device, you can find the app within your smart watch.
COOKING
Our grill is great at cooking the full range of traditionally grilled food, including steak, chicken, pork, hot dogs and hamburgers. The precise temperature control and even heat distribution arguably make the grill superior to gas grills for more delicate foods like fish, vegetables, and even fruit.
To set the temperature on the grill, turn the knob to the desired temperature, and click to confirm. In the app click on the ‘Cook’ tab at the bottom of the app, scroll to the desired temperature, and click ‘Set temperature’. If you have the Dual-Zone Grill, you'll need to confirm if you want this temperature on just one zone or both.
When a food probe is plugged into the control panel, it will register and display the temperature of the probe on both the control panel and in the app. You can monitor the probe temperatures from the control panel but cannot set targets. To set probe targets, you must use the app. In the app, go to the ‘Cook’ tab and select the probe at the bottom of the screen. After you select the probe you would like to set, you will be given the option to use temperature guides or to set the temperature manually. Choose which option you want, select your desired temp and press the orange set button to confirm. When the probe reaches the set target, the probe will beep at the control panel and send a notification via the app to indicate target temp has been reached.
Yes, you can add smoke by sprinkling wood chips or pellets either directly onto the grates, or by placing them in the included solid flavor tray and adding that tray to the cooking surface. To generate smoke, the grill must be set to a hot enough temperature to burn the smoke source being used.
You can view recipes in the Current app on the ‘Recipes’ tab or through the Current website. We recommend using the app as there are interactive recipes specifically for Current grills/griddles that will help guide you through the cook.
CLEANING & STORAGE
Between each cook we recommend the following steps. Firstly, once the grill has cooled down, wipe down the exterior of the grill. Secondly, check and empty the grease tray if needed. Lastly, scrape the grease, grime, and remaining food off the grates with a safe grill brush. To make this easier, you may run the ‘SmartClean’ program by pressing that button on the control panel or within the app. We additionally recommend checking the element trays below the grates monthly and cleaning out excess grease as needed.
Always unplug your grill when it's not in use and store it away, so it stays out of the elements. We recommend using the custom-fit Current grill cover to protect your appliance.
ACCESSORIES
Accessories can be purchased from the Current website or from the mobile app on the ‘Discover’ tab and ‘Shop’ header.
While a cover is not required, we do recommend using a cover to protect your grill/griddle.
WARRANTY
Current has a limited 10-year warranty with product registration. Without registration, we offer a limited 5-year warranty.
You can register the warranty on your grill when you are setting up your grill in the mobile app. After you select your product select ‘Register Product/Guides’ and ‘Register Grill Warranty’, before you connect your mobile app to the grill. If you missed the product registration during setup, go to ‘Account’ tab at the bottom, then click the ‘Settings’ tab at the top, then click ‘Support’, then click ‘Register Product/Guides’, then click ‘Register Grill Warranty’, and follow the prompts.
